Dr. Liping Yan is a Technical Specialist in Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). He also serves as a Chief Consultant for Southwest Geotech, Inc. and a Gust Professor for Southwest Jiaotong University and Guangzhou Railway Technical College.</br></br>Before he started his career at LADWP in 2008, he had worked for consulting companies for 18 years. He climbed steadily the corporate ladder, from a Staff Engineer, to a Project Engineer, a Senior Engineer, a Principal Engineer and a Vice President of a subsidiary firm of an ENR 500 company, which launched IPO in 2006. He also founded Southwest Geotech, Inc. to provide specialty services in solving difficulty geotechnical and earthquake engineering problems in design and construction of civil works.</br></br>Liping Yan received B.Eng. Degree in bridge engineering and M.Eng. Degree in geotechnical engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University, China. In 1986, he came to U.S.A. for further study. He earned M.S. and E.D. from California Institute of Technology, and Ph.D. from University of Southern California, all in civil engineering. </br></br>Dr. Yan has been actively involved in professional activities and community services. He is a vice president of International Association of Chinese Geotechnical Engineers and a member of Earthquake Engineering and Soil Dynamics Committee, Geo-Institute, ASCE. He is also an advisor to Chinese-American Engineers and Scientists Association of Southern California (CESASC), International Chinese Transportation Professionals Association - Southern California Chapter, and Overseas Chinese Civil and Structural Engineering Association.</br></br>Dr. Yan is enthusiastic about helping others to achieve their educational and professional dreams. He has been a strong advocate for STEM and mentoring programs.
